Funeral Transport Process

Dear bereaved family, we extend our deepest condolences to you and your loved ones for your loss. Our funeral transportation service is carried out as swiftly as possible with the dedication and sensitivity of Turkish Cargo, the airline flying to the widest global network. All procedures related to documentation, packaging, and labeling are conducted in accordance with the relevant authorities’ regulations and IATA standards.

1. Priority and Scheduling

Sender Responsibilities

  • Funeral shipments transported between domestic stations on an airport-to-airport basis are handled with priority.
  • No prior reservation with our cargo units is required before transportation.
  • All procedures must be completed at least 120 minutes prior to the scheduled flight departure to ensure shipment on the requested flight.

2. Delivery Points

Required Documents

  • Funeral shipments may be delivered to our cargo terminals located at İstanbul, Ankara, Adana, Antalya, and İzmir stations.
  • At other domestic stations, deliveries or applications can be made through the cargo units located at the airports.

3. Required Official Documents

  • A death certificate issued by the relevant official authority must be presented at the time of delivery.
  • The death certificate must include the following information in full and be duly signed:
    • Full name
    • Place and date of birth
    • Place and date of death
    • Cause of death
    • Communicable disease status
  • For electronically signed documents, a verifiable validation link must be included on the document.

If there are difficulties in obtaining the death certificate, the Regulation on the Construction of Cemeteries and Funeral Transport and Burial Procedures issued by the Turkey Ministry of Health may be reviewed:

4. Packaging and Coffin Standards

Required Documents

  • The deceased must be packaged in a manner that prevents odor and leakage and placed in a durable wooden or metal coffin to prevent damage.
  • The coffin must be fully covered so that its contents are not visible and securely sealed.
  • Coffins containing deceased persons who passed away due to communicable diseases must be soldered, fully sealed, and leak-proof.
  • If personal belongings accompany the deceased, General Cargo acceptance standards apply, and a separate Domestic Air Waybill is issued.

5. Pricing and Escort Information

Required Documents

  • Transportation fees are collected by our cargo counters at the time of delivery.
  • Funeral shipments may be transported without an escort or on the same flight as the accompanying passenger.
  • If escort transportation is requested, upon application to ticket sales offices with the Domestic Air Waybill issued by our cargo unit, up to two accompanying passengers are entitled to a 20% discounted ticket.

Contacting an Authorized Agent

International funeral transportation is carried out through IATA-authorized cargo agents. For all information and reservation processes, please contact our authorized agents or our general sales representatives abroad.

2. Preparation of Required Documents

Sender Responsibilities

For international funeral transportation, the following documents are required from the shipper:
  • Death certificate (approved by the consulate and translated into Turkish)
  • Consular letter
  • Air Waybill (AWB)
  • Autopsy report (if the cause of death is suicide, homicide, or accident)
  • Travel permit (may be required by the destination or transit countries)

3. Operations and Shipment

Required Documents

  • Once all documents are submitted in full, the operational process is conducted under the coordination of the authorized agent.
  • Transportation planning is carried out in accordance with destination and transit country requirements, and the shipment is completed securely.
